Dental implants are a permanent and effective treatment option used to replace lost teeth. A dental implant can be defined as an artificial root in the form of a screw made of titanium. This screw is placed in the jawbone and fuses with the jawbone over time, creating a solid foundation.

How Does the Implant Treatment Process Work?

Implant treatment usually includes the following steps:

Evaluation and Planning: The dentist evaluates the patient for implant treatment. The oral structure, jawbone condition, and general health are examined. A detailed diagnosis is made with the necessary X-rays and other imaging methods. The treatment plan is customized according to the patient’s needs and condition.

Implant Placement: During implant surgery, the dentist places implant screws into the jawbone under local anesthesia. This is usually a simple surgical procedure. The implants fuse with the jawbone in a similar way to natural tooth roots, and an integration process begins. This process can take several months and allows the jawbone to hold the implant securely.

Temporary Restoration (Optional): A temporary prosthesis or other temporary restorations can be used during the healing process of the implant. This allows you to have an aesthetic and functional temporary tooth.

Restoration: After the implant has successfully fused with the jawbone, the dentist attaches a restoration (such as a crown, bridge or denture). The restoration represents the artificial tooth placed on the implant. This restoration provides an aesthetic appearance and functionality and is designed to be similar to the surrounding teeth.

Care and Control: Regular dental care and control are important for the longevity of implants. The dentist performs periodic checks to monitor the health and functionality of the implants and provides the necessary hygiene instructions.

Dental implants offer many advantages in replacing lost teeth. These include the appearance and feel similar to natural teeth, maintaining a solid jaw structure, preventing the jawbone from melting, restoring chewing function and improving speech ability.
