What Is Sinus Lift?
Sinus lifting (sinus lift) is a procedure that involves lifting or elevating the maxillary sinus area, which is a hollow space in the upper back region of the upper jaw, due to inadequate bone in the jaw for implant placement in implant dentistry. This procedure aims to provide more bone volume to enable the stable and adequate support of implants.
What Are the Steps of Sinus Lift Procedure?
The sinus lifting procedure typically includes the following steps:
- Evaluation:
A dentist evaluates the condition of the jawbone and the sinus area. Information about bone volume and the position of the sinus is gathered using imaging techniques such as X-rays and/or computed tomography.
- Anesthesia:
Sinus lifting is usually performed under local anesthesia to prevent the patient from feeling pain or discomfort.
- Healing Period:
After the sinus lifting procedure, a waiting period is necessary for the newly created bone volume with a bone graft to heal. This period generally varies between 4 to 9 months. Once the healing process is complete, implants can be placed.
Sinus lifting allows for the creation of sufficient bone volume for implant treatment. This enables the implants to be placed more stably, ensuring long-term success. Sinus lifting should be performed by a skilled dentist and assessed individually for each patient.
